Why cork? Isn't it for wine bottles? Cork is nature’s most technical material. For Pilates, it is superior to rubber because it is naturally antimicrobial (it kills bacteria and odors on contact) and provides a "warm" tactile feel. Unlike plastic mats, cork is 100% biodegradable and harvested without ever harming a tree.
Does the mat get slippery when I sweat? Actually, the opposite! Cork contains a natural waxy substance called suberin that becomes more grippy when wet. While traditional PVC mats become a slip-hazard during a sweaty session, the Alignment Mat’s traction increases as you move.
What is the bottom layer made of? To achieve that perfect 6mm cushion for your spine and joints, we use a high-density, eco-friendly TPE base. It is non-toxic, recyclable, and free from PVC and phthalates, ensuring your mat stays firmly planted on the studio floor.
Usage & Performance
What do the lines on the mat mean? Those are our Precision Alignment Guides. They are laser-etched into the cork to help you find your center and ensure your hands, feet, and hips are perfectly symmetrical. It’s like having a Pilates instructor’s eyes on your form at all times.
Is 6mm too thick for balance poses? We’ve found 6mm to be the "sweet spot" for Pilates. It provides the necessary protection for your vertebrae during rolling exercises (like the Seal or Open Leg Rocker) while remaining dense enough to provide a stable foundation for standing balance work.
Is the mat heavy? Can I take it to the studio? Despite its large size and 6mm thickness, our cork-TPE blend is surprisingly lightweight. It’s designed to be portable enough for your daily commute to the studio while being durable enough for a permanent home-gym setup.
Care & Longevity
How do I clean my Alignment Mat? Because cork is naturally antibacterial, it does most of the work for you! For general maintenance, simply wipe it down with a soft cloth and a mix of water and a drop of mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or submerging it in water. Always let it air dry before rolling it up with the cork side facing out.
Will the cork crack over time? High-quality cork is incredibly resilient. To prevent any surface cracking, always roll your mat with the cork side facing outwards. This keeps the surface taut and smooth for years of practice.
